My work is primarily acrylic paintings on canvas. The beauty of Southern California, where I’ve been a resident since 2003, has largely inspired my recent artwork. Prior to moving to California, I’ve lived in several other locations both in the U.S. and abroad and I still travel frequently. A vast array of experiences has enriched my choice of subject matter and appreciation for new and exotic ideas.
My artwork has also gone through different phases, influenced by such great Masters as Picasso, Matisse, and more recently, Georgia O’Keeffe. I am greatly motivated by O’Keeffe’s approach which she summed up as “It is only by selection, by elimination, by emphasis that we get at the real meaning of things.” Palm trees, tropical flowers, and beaches are among my latest interests. Transcending their visible reality, I bring them alive with the emotional force of vibrant colors, simplicity of form, and emphasis on the core object. My mission is to create images that can convey a sense of pleasure to the viewer, whether it is joy, peace, or tranquility.
I re-started my art career after spending 15 years as an analyst in the international banking industry. I hold a B.A. degree in fine art and business administration from the College of Saint Teresa, Winona, Minnesota. My paintings have been sold locally as well as in Canada and Korea. I am a member of Orange County Fine Arts, International Society of Acrylic Painters, Orange Art Association, and the Federation of Canadian Artists.
