Linda Serrao

Art has been an important part of my life from kindergarten, when I would fill the backsides of used paper that my father brought home from work. Raised in California’s Central Valley without access to art schools, I borrowed every book on drawing from the Bookmobile, mastering functional anatomy of people and animals before high school.

A graduate of UCLA, I found my calling in figurative sculptural works ranging from bas relief through realistic larger-than-life bronze figures.  Classic Greek sculptures provide stylistic inspiration, although Bernini (17th Century Roman) is my favorite sculptor.  Specializing in realistic figurative sculpture, I concentrate on expressing the mood or inner spirit of my subject. My bronze sculptures offer a comment on our shared human condition, illustrating the universal experiences and concerns common to all cultures.

I have received numerous awards, including an award for my contribution to public art from the California State Senate.  My works range from studio works to commissioned portraits to site-specific commissions in response to public calls.  As a lifetime Artist, a Planning Commissioner, and a licensed landscape and building contractor, I have considerable experience on all sides of the design and siting process.

My classical style bronzes are in public and private collections throughout the world, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Spain, Australia, and New Zealand.  They are recognized for their candid and intimate glimpse of the subject immersed in a personal moment.
